Rappel III

Elzbieta Sikora

"Rappel III" 1998, 14' for string orchestra

Publisher Chant du Monde

This work was written for my friend, the conductor Jean Thorel and his string ensemble "Stringendo" and first performed on 17th October 1998 in Saint Julien le Pauvre Church in Paris. In 2004 the chamber orchestra "Amadeus" conducted by Agnieszka Duczmal recorded the work for the Polish Radio record series.

The work is in one movement.

"The evolutionary progress of this musical form depends on the interplay of sound structures differentiated by sound colour, which are transformed by means of various traditional and unconventional techniques of articulation. In the gradually changing texture of sound, one can distinguish clearly marked signals which the composer compares to paths, boulders, milestones and forest clearings. These signals punctuate the progress of the piece, change the flow of narration, so that it oscillates between peace and tension, like our everyday reality which is frequently attacked by the appalling events that occur around us."
