Gdańsk Music Festival 2012 is a continuation of a project which was realized for the first time in 2008. The form of the festival is open, however the influence on every edition has its message and an Artist in Residence.
In 2009 a composer Elżbieta Sikora agreed to take this function, in 2010 it was a prominent pianist, laureate of Xth International F. Chopin Competition in Warsaw - Ewa Pobłocka, in 2011 one of the greatest stars of Polish vocalistic - Stefania Toczyska, in 2012 an outstanding violinist - Konstanty Andrzej Kulka took this function.
Gdańsk Music Festival 2012 will be mostly devoted then to the presentation of achievements of this one of the most outstanding violinist in the last decades of polish violinist history and its program will be predominated with strings showed in many different configurations.
Worldwide career of Konstanty Andrzej Kulka started from International Competitions in Genua and famous Competition ARD in Munich where he undisputedly won the first prize. He was then still a student of Academy of Music in a class of professor Stefan Herman, academy to which he have recently returned as a pedagogue leading a master class of strings.
On the festival Konstanty Andrzej Kulka will show as well as a soloist as a chamber musician performing i.a. with renowned Warsaw Quintet: Konstanty Andrzej Kulka - violin, Krzysztof Bąkowski - violin, Rafał Kwiatkowski - cello, Stefana Kamasa - viola and Krzysztof Jabłoński - piano with Camerata Vistula and Poznań Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of one of the most notable Polish conductors - Marek Pijarowski.
On the inauguration concert as a soloist will play the first cellist of Berliner Philharmoniker - Ludwig Quandt. There will be the concerts of the laureate of the XIV th International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition in Poznań: the first prize winner Korean Soyoung Yoon and a finalist, laureate of the Youth Award Erzhan Kulibaev from Kazachstan.
The concerts on which will perform i.a. famous Collegium Marianum Prague, Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, Ensemble Sans Souci Berlin, Polish Chamber Choir and laureate oft he International Henryk Szeryng Violin Competition - Dalia Kuznecovaite, will also be significant events.
As on every edition of the festival there will be the concerts of Gdańsk music, old and contemporary and as always the concerts will take place in the whole region, in Sopot, Starogard Gdański, Elbląg, Trąbki Wielkie
